How to Maintain the Measurement Stability of Electronic Belt Scales?

Update time:2025-11-03

Electronic belt scales are industrial automatic measuring devices capable of weighing materials without interrupting the transportation on belt conveyors. Their accuracy, stability, and performance are not only related to their own quality, technical features, and scale frame structure but also to the application environment, belt conveyor, and operational maintenance.

To ensure the measurement accuracy and improve the measurement stability of electronic belt scales during application, the following five requirements must be met, and four behaviors must be avoided:

Five Requirements:

1. Maintain Stable Belt Tension:

   - During the operation of the belt conveyor, the tension changes continuously. Variations in belt tightness and material uniformity can affect the pressure on the weighing idlers of the electronic belt scale, thereby impacting its measurement accuracy.

Therefore, maintaining constant belt tension is crucial for improving measurement accuracy. An automatic tensioning device can be installed to ensure a consistently sufficient tension.

2. Adjust the Belt Promptly:

   - Belt misalignment is another significant factor affecting the measurement accuracy of electronic belt scales, and it commonly occurs during belt conveyor operation. To ensure the belt remains centered on the conveyor idlers, attention must be paid during scale installation. If belt misalignment occurs during operation, immediate adjustments should be made.

3. Keep the Scale Body and Belt Clean:

   - During material transportation, it is common for materials to fall and get stuck in the idlers or scale frame of the belt conveyor, affecting idler rotation and introducing additional forces. Material adhesion on the belt and dust accumulation on the scale frame can increase extra gravity, impacting the accuracy of the belt scale, especially for lever-type belt scales with relatively complex structures.

Therefore, it is essential to promptly remove materials stuck in the scale frame connections, idlers, and dust accumulation, as well as material adhered to the belt, to prevent additional forces from causing inaccurate measurements.

4. Perform Calibration Work Properly:

   - As a dynamic measuring instrument, the zero-point calibration and calibration calibration of electronic belt scales significantly impact their accuracy.

Modern electronic belt scale instruments have automatic online zeroing functions, but initial observations and comparisons are still necessary for newly operated belt scales. Additionally, regular calibration is required for electronic belt scales, and recalibration is necessary after belt replacement, adjustments, or idler lubrication.

5. Conduct Regular Inspections:

   - Daily inspection work must be thorough, such as checking whether the speed sensor is reliably in contact with the belt conveyor, whether fasteners are loose, whether the weighing idlers rotate flexibly, and whether cables and cable connectors are properly protected. Any abnormalities must be addressed immediately.

Four Behaviors to Avoid:

1. Do Not Operate Beyond Capacity:

   - The amount of material transported should be within the range of the electronic belt scale's capacity, with the maximum flow rate not exceeding 120%.

Otherwise, it may cause overload damage to the weighing sensor. Conversely, excessively low flow rates can affect measurement accuracy.

2. Do Not Apply External Force on the Weighing Section:

   - No additional weights should be placed within the weighing range of the belt scale, as this can also cause overload damage.

3. Do Not Perform Welding on the Scale Frame:

   - Welding work is strictly prohibited on the scale body of the belt scale. In special circumstances where welding is necessary, it must be carried out according to specifications, with the power disconnected and grounded, ensuring that no current loop passes through the weighing sensor.

4. Do Not Replace Parts Arbitrarily:

   - It is strictly prohibited to arbitrarily loosen bolts or other fasteners or replace parts of the belt scale. If there are any abnormalities that cannot be handled by oneself, the original manufacturer should be consulted.
