An electronic belt scale is a device installed on a belt conveyor for continuous weighing and metering of materials passing on the belt.
Essentially, it is a scale, but as the name suggests, it is closely linked to the belt. The quality and operational state of the belt significantly impact the metering accuracy of the belt scale. Therefore, to ensure precise metering and stable operation of the electronic belt scale, the belt quality must be excellent. If there is no belt, it is essential to select a qualified one; if a belt is already installed, regular maintenance is required.
1. Quality Requirements for the Belt
- The conveyor belt for a belt scale can be made of high-quality laminated rubber or plastic belts. Currently, domestic rubber belts are categorized into ordinary, impact-resistant, heat-resistant, flame-retardant, and cold-resistant types, but generally, a normal-temperature wear-resistant rubber belt is used.
- The belt conveyor for a belt scale should also be made of high-quality rubber belts, with a breaking strength ≥10 MPa, elongation at break ≥300%, and wear volume ≤1.0 cm/1.6 km. However, endless belts or belts spliced into an endless loop must be used. Clip connectors are never allowed.
The thickness of the working surface rubber is typically 2-3 mm, while the non-working surface thickness is 1.5 mm. Usually, 1-4 layers of core are used. The thickness deviation of the belt material should not exceed 0.5 mm of the nominal value, and the mass deviation per unit length should not exceed 3% of the average value. Due to the requirements of the metering system, a lighter body and good flexibility are desired.
2. Belt Width
- The belt width of a belt scale is primarily determined based on the maximum instantaneous load of the feeder, material size, and belt speed. Although the bandwidth is determined during production selection, users often need to retest or reselect them during use, especially when there are significant changes in the quantity or physical properties of the materials.
3. Belt Speed
- The belt speed of a belt scale differs from that of a conveyor belt. It is mainly to ensure sufficient feeding accuracy rather than simply pursuing conveying efficiency. Therefore, the general belt speed ranges from 0.05 to 0.5 m/s.
At this lower speed, it is particularly stable for smooth operation, uniform discharge, reducing vibration, lowering electrical resistance, minimizing belt wear, and improving feeding accuracy. Based on domestic and international experience, the belt speed of a belt scale is generally below 0.5 m/s.
Regardless of how excellent the performance, metering accuracy, and anti-interference capabilities of an electronic belt scale are, issues such as belt slippage, misalignment, and wear can significantly affect metering accuracy. To ensure precise metering, careful attention must be paid to belt selection, ensuring the belt material is wear-resistant and the tension is stable.
